Postproduction house PS260 who did the Shining Redux last year have been toppled off their slick cutting throne by a band of hooligans called addictive TV who upped the ante and edited both film and sound to create Take the lead addictive TV Remix out of the new Antonio Banderas movie. Who knew that the sound of a movie could make a kick-ass dance track? Well, they knew, obviously. Take the Lead remix in the commercial archive Super adgrunts, if you want this one to show up in the history books...err..sorry the yearly roundup don't forget to rate it up! Musical Instrument Innovation and High Voltage Electricity

While in Austin for a weekend of SXSW adventures, I had the chance to hang out with Seven, who’s a maker interested in exploring a wide variety of innovative projects. Recently he’s been making musical instrument hybrids. While hanging out, Seven showed me a musical instrument he’s made called “The Boar.” The Boar is a bass guitar made out of a boat oar. Seven’s also made another cool hybrid instrument a cool called “The Stump.”

Besides making instruments, Seven also has had a healthy obsession with high voltage electricity lately and recently he made a jacob’s ladder in his kitchen!

Invisible Engine is the disturbed brainchild of Inivisble Engine Films trio, Sean Bury, Chris Cantwell and Matt Wyatt who have this to say about the project:

While Invisible Engine was originally formed to produce THE PROTOTYPE, a full-length feature film (finished and on its way to festivals), we now choose to bide our time by making offensive short films with the expensive movie equipment left over from production.

The above short, Dear Lord Horatio Nelson, is just such a video.

A young man, smitten by Lord Nelson (though long dead), goes to great lengths to get the Lord’s attention. Hilarity ensues.

Several other shorts are available for viewing on the site as well as their MySpace and YouTube pages, full of adult humour that will make you titter.

I learned about Invisible Engine on VideoBomb, a voting site for online video. Users link to content already hosted on the web that they find compelling and the submissions are voted on or "bombed". Popular videos are given front page status.

It’s nice to see videos popping up on these voting sites that aren’t television clips and spoofs. Perhaps, as the fascination with being able to post content subsides, voting sites will see more and more original stuff in their lists. I’ve been noticing some shifting going on in the content of their feeds already and I’m curious about what the future will bring.

Harrod Blank’s “Wild Wheels”

Harrod Blank’s 1992 cult classic art car documentary “Wild Wheels” is now available on DVD, as a special re-mastered 2 disc set with extras. Harrod’s film is an excellent introduction to the wonderful and bizarre world of art cars and I highly recommend it. Here’s a QuickTime preview from the film featuring Gene Pool and his Grass Car.

Wild Wheels is filmmaker Harrod Blank’s comic and revealing exploration of Art Cars, personally customized automobiles which reflect the individualistic spirit of their drivers. Traveling across the country in his own wildly decorated VW bug, Blank discovers a memorable cast of real-life characters who are obsessed with transforming their cars into mobile works of art.

to bring you shots of all your favorite places, and then some.
Theme Parks, Celebrity Homes, Crime Scenes...You know what I would
like to see? Shots of industrial pollution. I went to Google to find that
story I recalled reading about activists in Mexico (I think) who
documented large scale pollution of the Gulf by using satellite imagery
from Google Maps. What I found instead was...

Salon has published the Abu Gharaib photos. "Most of the photos

Jamendo. A website that promotes musical artists, and allows you, the

spent a hot minute lookin around, and am excited to spend more time
their. The site seems to have a large international base, and allows
you to search by album, concert, artist, and best of all, thru tags .
Hundreds of tags, so whatever fits your fancy, hip-hop, ambient,
whatever. I'm telling you, this site is a treasure trove of hot music
you haven't heard. I predict this site is going to be getting huge
traffic soon, if it isn't already.

Uh-Oh. YouTube is pulling videos down with some alarming frequency.
There was a video up on their site that showed a five year old boy
doing his own rendition of that Dylan video, Subterranean Homesick
Blues. This boy, at five years old, had memorized the whole song,
and sang it while discarding pieces of paper, tossing them on his
living room floor just as Dylan did in the song. It was adorable, and
amazing, and now it's gone. Taken down for copyright infringement!
Wow. Seriously? I'm no lawyer, but singing a song by another artist, on
home video, is copyright infringement? (skeptical eyes)

Thankfully, I Googled it, and found that WFMU is hosting the file on
their site. Take that, Copyright Lawyers!
