Freundlich was born in New York City, the son of Leslie Lehr and Michael Freundlich, a civil rights lawyer. He grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He graduated from The Fieldston School in 1991 and then attended Wesleyan University, whee he double majored in English and film studies.
Freundlich made his directorial debut with the 1996 film, “The Myth of Fingerprints.” His other films include “World Traveler” (2001), “Trust the Man” (2005), “The Rebound” (2009), and “Wolverine” (2013). He also directed episodes of the television series “In Treatment” (2008-2010) and “The Affair” (2014-2015).
