He played college football at Michigan and was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the thid round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He also played for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Griese retired from playing football in 2011.
During his NFL career, Griese completed 2,037 of 3,349 passes for 25,095 yards and 161 touchdowns with 144 interceptions. He also rushed for four touchdowns. In 2007, he was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press after leading the Broncos to a 13–3 record and throwing for a then-career-high 4,455 yards and 25 touchdowns.
