If you find yourself with a cluttered contact list in Gmail and want to tidy things up by removing unnecessary contacts, fear not! The process is straightforward and can be completed in just a few simple steps.
First, log in to your Gmail account and navigate to Google Contacts. This can easily be done by clicking on the Google Apps icon in the top right corner of your Gmail inbox and selecting “Contacts” from the dropdown menu.
Once you are in Google Contacts, you will see a list of all your saved contacts. To remove a single contact, simply check the box next to the contact’s name. If you wish to delete multiple contacts at once, you can check the boxes next to all the contacts you want to remove.
After selecting the contacts you want to delete, look to the top right corner of the screen. Here, you will see a “More” button. Click on this button to reveal a dropdown menu of additional options.
From the dropdown menu, select the “Delete” option. This action will prompt a confirmation pop-up to verify that you indeed want to delete the selected contacts. Click on “Delete” to proceed with removing the contacts from your list.
Once you have confirmed the deletion, the selected contacts will be moved to the trash folder in Google Contacts. This allows you to easily recover them in case of accidental deletions or if you change your mind.
It’s worth noting that contacts deleted from your Google Contacts will also be removed from any other Google services connected to that account, such as Google Hangouts or Google Photos.
If you wish to permanently delete the contacts from the trash folder, you can do so by accessing the “Trash” section in Google Contacts, selecting the contacts you want to remove permanently, and clicking on the “Delete forever” option.
