Forwarding emails in Gmail can be a useful feature when you want to ensure you receive important messages in one central location. If you’re looking to set up email forwarding in Gmail, follow these steps to get started:
Step 1: Access Gmail Settings
First, ensure you are logged into your Gmail account. Then, navigate to the settings by clicking on the gear icon located in the top right corner of your Gmail dashboard.
Step 2: Locate Forwarding Options
Once in the settings menu, find the tab labeled “Forwarding and POP/IMAP.” This is where you’ll be able to manage your forwarding settings.
Step 3: Add a Forwarding Address
In the “Forwarding” section, select the option to add a forwarding address. Enter the email address to which you want your messages to be forwarded.
Step 4: Verify the Forwarding Address
After entering the forwarding address, Gmail will send a verification email to that address. You will need to open the verification email and click on the provided link to confirm the forwarding address.
Step 5: Confirm Forwarding
Once you have verified the forwarding address, return to the forwarding settings in Gmail and confirm the forwarding address you added.
Step 6: Choose Forwarding Options
When confirming the forwarding address, you’ll have the opportunity to select how you want Gmail to handle the forwarded messages. You can choose to keep a copy in your Gmail inbox, mark forwarded messages as read, or archive forwarded messages.
Step 7: Save Changes
After setting your preferred forwarding options, be sure to save your changes by clicking the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the settings page.
Step 8: Test Forwarding
To ensure that email forwarding is working correctly, send a test email to your Gmail account from another email address. Check to see if the email is successfully forwarded to the designated address.
Step 9: Adjust Settings as Needed
If you encounter any issues with email forwarding or if you need to make changes to your forwarding settings, simply revisit the forwarding settings in Gmail to adjust as needed.
Step 10: Disable Forwarding
If at any point you no longer wish to forward emails from your Gmail account, you can easily disable forwarding by revisiting the forwarding settings and removing the forwarding address.
